These are the two most popular day excursions from Marrakech, and yet they have nothing in common: on one side the lush mountains of the Atlas, on the other the mineral dunes of the desert. Here's how to choose between the Ourika Valley and the Agafay desert based on what you're after.

Choose the Agafay desert if...
You're looking for adrenaline (quad, buggy), a more "Instagrammable" experience with dunes and a spectacular sunset, or a relaxing day by an infinity pool in a desert setting. Agafay is also the best choice if you're short on time: its proximity to Marrakech makes it easy to combine with another activity the same day, or to leave late in the morning without losing the whole day to transport.

And if you have time, why not both?
For a stay of 4 days or more, nothing stops you from combining both excursions on different days: the Ourika Valley for nature and Berber culture, the Agafay desert for adventure and relaxation. Since both are located in opposite directions from Marrakech, it isn't possible to visit them the same day without rushing.
